If it were me, I'd pull a 4.3L Vortec and auto/man. tranny from a newer S10. Pull the old stuff, put the new stuff in, and make mounts to do it.

To do a manual, the clutch linkage could be tricky. Otherwise, get the entire ECU and wiring harness from the donor truck.

Mikey, when you gonna realize that 5 speeds are more fun? Smile

Theres really no such thing as "clutch linkage" these days anymore, it's all hydraulic, so as long as the master on the truck is suitably sized, its just a matter of making a line to go from the master to the slave on the tranny.

Waste of money. Get the VQ35DE and put it in there. Less things to worry about on how it fits, etc. Plus its a bit more powerful.

The 3.5 wont fit without custom exhaust manifolds, nor will it bolt up to anything but a Nissan tranny made for that engine (in other words you need a new Pathfinder/QX4 donor vehicle), so unless you're an awesome fabricator, I'd stick with plan A. There's lots of different manifold and header combinations available for a 4.3 Chevy.

A 4.3 is WAY cheaper, and puts out WAY more power in lower RPM's than the 3.5 could even WISH to put out.

Also a 3.5 is ENORMOUS compared to a 4.3.

Would it be any harder to pull the 4.3/700 out of an Astro than an S10? I have more questions about this, when I remember them I will ask. I have the Z24 too...worn out.

Probably not significantly harder...you gotta remove the front clip from the van and cherry pick it all out of there....Otherwise the Astro chassis is about the same as an S-10
