Cool forum guys! I've been doing a bit of work to my truck lately and I need some ideas on a bumper. This weekend I am installing a Calimini 3" suspension lift. Next up is a custom prerunner bumper. I've seen Calminis, but the angle on the skid plate is too straight up and down. Has anbody seen a cool prerunner bumper on a newer Frontier? Below is a pic before the lift!

OMG! BADASS truck man!!! Many complements! All us Phoenix locals should have a gathering up at the Scottsdale Pavillions cruise-in sometime.

I would do something like what Desert Rat's got on his truck:

Nevermind that its on its side.. that bumper took some abuse that day. Smile DR had his done locally by John Hunter at Hunter Offroad for about $400 I think.. even included the lights.

Thanks for the info on the bumper and the compliments! I know of a place to do the bumper, Geiser Bros. They build baja trucks and rails from scratch. I just want ideas. The frame sticks out like 10" from the radiator after removing the stock plastic bumper. And I want the skid plate to have a nice angle on it so it works and looks cool(at least 45 degrees). But I don't want the bumper to stick out too much and lengthen my truck. I may have the frame shortened a few inches, but that is kinda scary considering I have 2.5 years left on the factory warranty.

I have 32" tires on there and it did lift the truck nicely about 2". And I have no rubbing with the fiberglass fenders and a some trimming. I do need the lift. I went romping in Scottsdale and it performed much better than stock. But everytime I got airborne a little on a whoop, it bottomed a little bit. And I want to be able to jump this puppy, eventually. Maybe in a couple years I'll have Geiser fabricate some big suspension. I would LOVE 15"-24" of travel! Maybe it'll feel like my dirtbike eventually. My buddies Ford Ranger has like 14" of travel and jumps 4 feet high without blinking an eye.

I did a custom bumper for my truck with the help of someone on this board.

We cut off the entire crumple zones on the frame, and welded my new bumper brackets to that. I added a piece of aluminum diamond plate for my skid, and it works really well. It may not be the style you are looking for, but it is rock solid. I weigh 280lbs, and I was standing on the bumper and jumping up and down, and it didn't even budge. Also, I lifted it 3 inches off the ground with a high lift, and no movement... Just a thought.

Check out this link for all the fabbing pictures, plus before and after shots... Bumper

Thanks for the pics. You did a nice job on your bumper! I wish I had a welder and tube bender. I think I'll leave the crumple zones in. I plan on putting a little bit more of the OEM bumper on. I sawed it in half just above the fog lights. It covers more radiator and sticks out about 4 inches so the skid will look more normal with a 45+ degree rake.

I must have looked at 500 bumpers on the net and like this one the best. I want it to look like this baby:

2002.. thats a sweet looking bumper. That'd look perfect on your truck.

I just got a tube bender, but still waiting on dies and whatnot before I can make stuff. thats the kind of stuff I'll be doing though. Smile

Yep, saw both of those. Also saw Calmini's prototype bumper. But I didn't like them that much. But I just got back from Geiser Bros and here it is...

It definately wouldn't fit well with the stock bumper on. If I didn't cut it, the angle of the skid would be straight up and down. Or I would have to make the bumper stick out at least another foot which would lengthen the truck too much. The way I did it keeps the truck about the same length, and I get a good angle on the skid, and I have a lot more front clearance for driving over other obsticles and not scraping. Plus I think it looks cool, but that is IMHO.

I know this thread is kinda' old, but I have a question about the pre-runner type bumpers.

In the case of the one in this thread, 02Frontier's front bumper looks like it would really leave the LCA's exposed in the rocks. I like to crawl when I can (and that's not just the beer talking!), so wouldn't this exposure be a bad thing? Or is this not really a concern?
