to get new MTR's. My old BFG ATKO's were tired at 75000 miles, so figured it was timne to bash the fenderwells w/ 10 pound sledge, crank the Tbars and throw some new meat up front.
Got some 30 x9.50" x 15 MTR's to ( almost)match the 31's in back.

It looks so much better, now.
Tomorrow will get them siped down the center.

Wow bille you got 75K out of your bfg's!!! Just got new bfg TAKOs on my truck after 65K on my old ones. Those are great tires bar none.

On my BFG mud tires (31x1050x15), I only got like 35k or somewheres around there. I was told that was good wearing on them.

Yup, they sure were good. Never rotated them- stayed on the front the whole time.
Center tread good- sides wore out.
Lots of chunks and gouges in the sidewall. No pops there, tho. Held a couple plugs in the tread...

Had them pumped to 45-50 psi the whole time, well , except for sand running at 6- 8psi. Mind you, these were 235/75's on 7" wide rim. I think the rim was too wide for the carcass, which made them wear the way they did. i got no complaints, tho.

Also had them to 4 psi( or less) last tuesday when I popped a bead after airring down too much to float on muddy Arizona. It got me to solid road, tho, where simply taking weight off the tire w/ the jack, along w/ a little shoulder massage and air ,got it serviceable in less than 2 minutes.

Just buy a tire groover and do it yourself, you can get them off ebay for like $65. It is very easy to do, it just takes a lot of time depending on the tire and design you want to go with.

Discount Tire ,in Oceanside , just N of Oceanside Blvd on Coast Hwy,is where I went. Only one around, that I was able to find.

Sipes are not "grooves"- they are almost invisible, in fact, they are razor thin. Just the center tread area was siped. If the sides are done , too, they will tend to "chunk" away.

Machine knocks them out in about 5 minutes.

Isnt that pointless then? I understand that it does create a small void, but one would think it would be so small that it would not be noticable. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

Pointless to have it done profeshioinally, or pointless to sipe at all? No there are no voids created. The cuts( sipes) are created by a razor edge cutter. no rubber is removed at all.
You cant even see it up close unless you press against a tread lug a little, Then it is visible.
A "whale snot" like lubricant is used as the "siper" cuts deeeper into the tread- which at most is 1/4". The rear tires were only siped 5/32". They're a little thin.
What I read about siping was that it allows the tread to better conform to the road. This allows the tread to last longer by roughly 20%. This truck is my daily driverDD, so many miles on asphalt compared to mud and snow. It's also supposed to help a little in the rain. Most passenger car tires are siped pretty heavily- virtual canyons -compared to the razor cuts of the siper that siped my MTR's.

Sorry, my computer was acting up. Anyways, I see what your trying to do now. In your case Siping is the way to go. Siping makes the tire last longer by doing 2 things. It allows the tire to conform to the road better and dissipate heat more effectively. If you want better traction in wet weather conditions then you have to groove them. Grooving the tire actually gives the water a place to go letting the tread contact the road again.

I think it makes them into better tires on snow and ice, not necessarily lots of water where definately grooving would come in handy.

Lots more little edges to grip with when things get slippery if siped well.
