Hi there guys. I have just finished installing a 360 dodge V8 and 727 Auto trans into my 96 Nissan pickup and need to change the diff gears to at least 3.0:1 prefer 2.75:1 and would like a possi or locker. I would also consider changing the whole diff if I need to and strenghten the rear would be good. I have checked some of the old threads and all pay reference to going in the opposite direction on gearing. Can any one offer help on the best solution and approx prices. Thanks

they all pay reference to going the other way because you can't go your way. Only solution is to ditch the axle. I would recommend going with a ford 9". Strong, and plenty of cheap (relatively) gearing and locker options.

Thanks, Just have the narrowing of the diff to contend with and the overall price. Thought there maybe some older model nissan diff from non overdrive model that might work.

Nissan doesn't have anytyhing that tall. About 4.10:1 is the tallest you'll find. 4.375 for the H233B axle (which you'd want with a V8)

The ford axle idea is a good one. Look for early Bronco axles

some f-100's had the proper width also. The 9" I got out of a '71 f-100 is the perfect width, and the perch location is even dead on, just had to change the shock mounts.

early mustangs had them, too...just remember these are 5-lug axles. You can do one of two things, you can use one of the five existing holes, and drill the rest (if it's a 5 on 5.5" pattern), or, call currie or another place and get a set of axles made. Currie will send you custom axles, your spline choice, high alloy, big diameter, and your bolt pattern with bearings, seals, and all for about $450. I went that route, due to being able to get a bigger splined shaft.

Thanks all, that helps and I think I'll definatly change the diff as Nissan can only supply 3.75:1 ratio at a healthy $650.00.

One more question no one has adressed yet. Is there any earlier Nissans that did not have a overdrive trans? Are thoes Diffs interchangable? Just reviewing all my options thanks..

All Nissan trannies in the D21 and D22 chassis had OD in the US. You might find an old 720 with 4 on the floor, but it'll have the puny H190 or at best, a C200 axle....neither of which I would want behind a V8.
