I recently purchased a pretty maxed out class 7 pre-runner with room for improvement only in the rear end and suspension department. The front is a Total Chaos setup with 14" overall travel with Bilstine 9100's the rear also has 2.5Dia 9100's Bilstines, capable of LOTS of travel, mounted to a very solid cage. The week link is the rear springs. The tired little 2 leaf with overloads allow about 5 inches of travel. So the thing is woefully out of balance... I want to go with a race leaf pack (Deaver or National) or other. However, I think I will need to go to a long leaf to get the travel Im looking for. Id like to have 14" with 40% in negative travel. Suggestions?
So Im thinking I will have to relocate the leaf perches to get away from the 47" leaves and on to something more like 60". I would assume I will also need to get rid of the 2piece drive line and adopt a long one with a slider. Can anyone tell me about their experience and recommendations? Lots of questions here I appreciate the input. Thanks ms |

I don't know that many people here are as knowledgeable on pre-runners as on the more traditional off-road, crawlers and mud, you seem to know more about it then I. But I'm sure we can try to find someone to help ya, I just didn't want you to think we were ignoring you.

Hey, thanks for the reply, Great signature pic, BTW. I have done a little racing but this is my first time with a Nissan. I had a 89 HB SE 4x4 that went 200K before I sold it, no major problems. I just purchased a new Frontier CrewCab S/C 4X4 and love it. The reason I went with Nissan pre-runner rather than a Ranger, like everyone else is because of the great Nissan loyalty and online community as well as their legendary durability. But it does make it hard to find parts and people that have taken them to the limit. Thanks again for the reply. Im sure someone out there has built just what im looking for.

It all depends on how much money you plan to spend on it. If you don't want to invest to much money, you could use Revolver Shackels to get the desired down travel...but I don't think it would give you the negative travel you seek. You could also incorporate coil overs in the rear since you have a stout cage already. KingShock coilovers would do the trick, but run $700+ each. You'd just have to have someone fab up a set up to keep your rear axle in check, someone who knows their sh!t. You could go for the 60" leaf but keep in mind this would be a 13leaf pack, and no matter how hard Nat'l or Deaver tries its going to be stiff[er]. Not what you really want on a prerunner. Really intrested on what you do so keep us informed.

SO the new leafs are on order. I went with Deavers. I stopped by my local race truck shop, Rock Star Trucks http://www.rockstartrux.com and talked with them. They had a loose set of Nationals and a set of Deavers. Although its an incredibly thick leaf pack the Deavers were very flexible. I was able to flex them 1 inch just by pushing on them on the ground. Then Mike at RST told me that Deaver is reworking their prerunner packs to provide more of a raising rate without so much of a lift, from 4 down to 2, so I said sign me up. I went with a pair of 61.5''s. The kit comes with new spring hangers, fabricated by Total Chaos, polyurethane bushings, plates and bolts. It should be in a few weeks. Ill post some pics as I do the install.
I also ordered the Bilstien bump stops for up front.. Those come in this weekend and Im stoked to start work in the fabrication and install. It should really round out the Total Chaos long travel a-arms and Bilstine 9100's. <ahref="http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/29ee649c/bc/Jetski/__tn_3frontier_gal_big05.jpg?bcyjIn.ApJJv_zrW2003 ">Frontier 4x4 S/C Crewcab</a> <ahref="http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/mstrasia/vwp?.dir=/Jetski&.dnm=RCA_0067.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t">1991 HB class 7 pre-runner</a> |
