Situation:

So I have my new arb installed and a stupid ear to ear grin to go with it. I am offroad and decieded that now is a good time to engage the arb while moving at a low forward speed. The arb engages and works as promised... but I want to make a tight corner and have good traction so I disengage the arb and it makes it's little hissing noise. Does the arb disengage imedaitly ie. is the spring preasure enough to unlock the locker even though there is some tension on the locking mechanism? or is it like the 4x4 system where you have to releive the tension on the assemble before the spring unlocks the arb????????????????

It should disengage immediately.. as long as most of the tension is relieved between the two sides of the axle. Hopefully Stone or Andy can jump in with more info.

what DAtz said and also, i notice w/ mine, taht I need to burp it(( flick the switch- for the solonoid- a couple times)).

Note: don't do this unless your compressor pressure is isolated physically from the solonoid thru a manual in-cab 1/4"ball valve or is bled off down to zero and is off. Otherwise, you'll just reengage the ARB.

AS was explained to me, it doesn't take but a few psi to hold it engaged. Sometimes it take awhile to burp out theexcess pressure as there's always a little 75-90W GL-5 mixed in.

Don't know about what Bille said, but it should disengage immediately.

i think my "slow to burp" symptom is related to the breather hose I have installed on the "burp" side of the solonoid.

the hissing noise is not a problem. just the air releasing. It'll disengage as soon as you hear that sound (if your normal, aka, not bille...)

I know , I was trying to add my usual stupid humor to my question. Smile I am more concerned with it not disengaging when it has a load on it, similar to the transfer case not disengaging when it is 'bound' or has tension on it.

it ought to disengage right away; if it doesn't, a quick blip off the throttle would do it; just quick enough to let off the power, but not so much as to lose forward momentum.

Honestly, if you're concerned about taking a curve after needing the locker, and it not unlocking, go ahead and just leave it engaged. It won't hurt anything if you're going slow, anywas. If you're on dirt or similiar, then you definately won't hurt anything.

I normally leave mine locked until I'm completely done w/ an obstacle; some of the trails I ride on are really tight, so if you clear one boulder, then go around a curve, there could easily be another bolder or hard climb immediately after, and you'll never see it ahead of time.

I have had both the front and rear lockers somtimes not disengage immediatley, it seems like they stay locked for few feet after the pressure releases. Hasnt been a problem thus far.
