Hello all- Im a new member been lurking for awhile and finally joined. Excellent forums and membership- thanks. Anyway after reading through the posts about overfilling manual trans (thanks again, was news to me) I fought with mine trying to get enough oil in. I took a 3/4" street elbow (45 degree, not a 90) and threaded into the level plug hole. Tighten until it points up and fill. This allowed exactly 1 1/2 quarts till lube ran out. tightened original plug into the fitting and was done. Worked great for me and was easier than jacks or filling from top. Just thought this might help somebody- very easy and .79 cents. Thanks for a great site.

Sounds good as long as it works, I just used to pull mine 1/2 on and 1/2 off the curb! Smile

Yea- it worked perfect, usually dont get so lucky. Whatever keeps gear lube from running down your arm! currykid3 looks like your xr might be dual sported, hard to tell from pic. I beat on an xr400 for years, one of the best do it all bikes around. Bought a ktm for gp and poker runs- love it!

If you in the woods you can put the passenger tire on rams or jack up the passenger side. You can also fill the tranny from the top.

Another way is to pull the shifter and fill from the top. be careful not to get dirt and gunk from on top of the transmission inside tho.

Might want to start a header thread, but you could always fill the header w/ GL-4.

crazyIt would smoke tho, and not pass smog visual.

The header will work on a CA truck - it has fittings for the EGR tube and the 02 sensor.

As for legality, though, I'm not sure. Doesn't CA fail you on a visual inspection if it looks like you have anything aftermarket on the exhaust?

my exhaust is custom, but the pipe going into the cat is stock. The header bolts up to that pipe.

If the device is CARB certified, it should come with a CARB sticker that shows the CARB exemption number. The stick is supposed to be placed under the hood or inside the door jam, I can't remember which, but I placed mine in my glove box so it wouldn't get lost.
