I called Calmini and got my gears reduction on preorder. They believe they will be able to have it available by Christmas.

I hate them. I will probly get them but the company is so slow and pathetic, the gears will be the only thing I will buy from them! I know it doesn't take this long to make the gears, and all this proves is that the company is not a good one to deal with. razz

i agree with you 100%, this is the only thing I am going to be getting from them. Their excuse though for taking longer is changing the r/p for a lower ratio. But nevertheless, they will be the first, and you cant knock them down for that.

My understanding is the first ratio that they were testing required some "modifications" to be installed. I heard that they were trying to make it more of a bolt on type of thing as well as went another ratio lower.

TF&J that's FUNNY!!! smile smile Check this out. I ordered their 3" lift in Aug. of last year for my birthday in Sept. And whattyaknow!!! I get it Dec. 5th and get it installed right before Xmas. How pissed was I? mad mad According to these "Graemlins" --pretty p.o.'d! Oh Yeah, I also ordered the Front LSD from them and kept hearing "in a month", "in a month" so after an exhausting 3 months of waiting AGAIN mad I just called and cancelled, and got the ARB from AC.

Later...

I don't think it's possible to be in the neighborhood of 4:1 in the tcase without some work. Both the 4:1 AND 4.7:1 gear sets for Toyotas require work on the tcase...

Calmini is looking at 3.9:1 in the production gears, direct drop in.

Yeah, wasn't the first set of gears CM had require welding and installation beyond the average mans hand? Wouldn't you rather have drop in set than have to hack away at the Xcase? I will say CM is SLOW. razz

I believe you still will need to do some grinding on the T-Case no matter what...could be mistaken, but that's the impression I'm getting.

Calmini may be slow, but they are quality and I'd rather wait a little and know I'm getting something that works cause it's a helluva alot of work installing and uninstalling parts..

I'm supposed to be getting a set of gears to test and write a review on..I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I'd rather grind than weld. CalMini does offer some great shiat, the new X rear bumper is the only reason I want an X. razz I just wish they would make stuff for my truck. Us 1wds sure are fogotten about. frown Speaking of which, why am I in this post? I don't even have a Xcase! big grin razz

make sure that you need Calmini's gears; you might not. My first trip to Moab in the SAS Frontier had me wondering how it'd do in the rocks. I followed a very big cherokee and a SAS Pathfinder, and guess what, the fronty went everywhere they did. With the low gears and auto transmission, it crawls right up everything i point at it. I don't think it needs low gears. the SAS pathy had a stock case too, and you'd never know it.
i suggest you test your rig first, it might save you all that $$.
oh btw, some might notice my jeep has the 4:1 kit, just so i'm not called a hypocrite, it has a manual trans, so it definitely needs it. big diff between an auto and a manual!

for starters, I have a manual tranny, I do not have the advantage of the auto. 2ndly, I will be running 34" swampers with stock gears. While this will make me tall on the highway (hopefully improve the mpg a little), the gear reduction will make up for the tire size difference. I feel this would be a better route than swapping front/rear r/p.

Yeah, except it only makes a difference when you're in low range. Hi range travel or 2wd will have you stuck with the same final drive.

Hey Rondo!

Thanks for the feedback from real world testing..that's pretty damn cool to hear your Fronty was crawling like that.

I'll definately take your advice and see how it drives first...love the coils my man, love em'

I know its only in low range that I will see the gear reduction, but I never take it out of low range anyways when we go wheeling..... Percentage-wise, it will be about the same like my 2000 truck, so I guess no more doing 85+ uphill
