I've got a 98 Frontier 2wd and would like to add a LSD to it. I'd like to do this while keeping the current rear end gear ratio. Someone mentioned to me that I might be able to replace the ring and pinion on a 4wd Frontier LSD with my stock ring and pinion. Thereby giving me a LSD with my stock gear ratio.

Does anyone know if this would be possible? I called Phantom Grip and they quoted me a price of 500 dollars installed for a LSD for my truck. I'm wondering if that might be a better way to go. Quaife said it would cost 1115 dollars just for the parts if I have the right model number rear end. A guy with Quaife is the one who gave me the idea to swap out the ring and pinion gears with my stock ones.

If I couldn't swap out the ring and pinion gears and just went with a LSD out of a 4wd; does anyone know how far off my Speedometer would be? I'm hoping someone maybe has experience with this.

Thanks for any info.

Sorry but no, it wont' be possible because the two trucks have different axles. You likely have the H190 or possibly the C200 axle, and the DR's have an H233B. The number on the axle code is the ring gear size in milimeters. The H190 has a removable 3rd member, and the C200 has a removable rear cover with 8 bolts, so you can tell the difference.

Holy cow, I never knew they used completely different axles. I just figured the differential was different. That is interesting. Thanks a bunch for the info.

My truck appears to have the H190.
