I just ordered a clutch off ebay from The West Covina Nissan Dealer "Thenismoshop.com". The kit was the Nissan OEM "Key Value" clutch kit for 165.00$ shipped. It came with the pressure plate, an exedy clutch disc, a throwout bearing, and pilot bushing.
Everything seems to fit normal, except when I match up my new clutch disc to my flywheel, I can tell its smaller than the last clutch I had. and doesnt take advantage of the entire pressure plate and flywheel. After Measuring the clutch disc they sent me, it measured to be approximately 225mm, and if i look up a replacement clutch on most places online, it will show that my clutch should be 250mm. I called the Dealer back and they told me that sometimes nissan will change the part from the original to make it fit a broad amount of vehicles rather than one specific, and having to make many different applications. Im sure this clutch disc will work fine, as it is still 24 spline and fits between the flywheel and pressure plate fine... but I was wondering if anyone on here has an explanation to this. I would obviously rather be having a larger diameter clutch than a smaller one... but i dont wanna have to spend another 100$ getting something different. Has anyone put a smaller disc than the original 250mm on there hardbody. my truck is a 95 hardbody vg33e 4x4 king cab 1995 s14 - SR20det 1995 d21 - VG33e |

OK, I'll Answer my own questio, since I found out what the problem is. Hopefully this will be helpful to others, and prevent them from making the same mistake I made.
The clutch that I bought was a Nissan "Key Value", which is Nissan's lower than OEM replacement. I guess back in the mid 90's Nissan was having trouble competing against aftermarket companys for there replacement parts, Mostly because the OEM nissan replacement parts were so expensive, and noone was willing to buy them. Therefore Nissan came up with a line of "Nissan Key Value" products, which were supposed to be Quality, but at a cheaper price, but still with the nissan name. Apparently, the products sucked, and the dealerships had to get rid of the stuff and either sold it through the internet, or threw it out. One of the dealerships in my area told me they used the Key Value brake pads on some of the customer cars and they were horrible, over and over. So the dealership threw all the key value products away, because they were all poor quality. The dealership also said they were not allowed to use key value products on any warrantee claims due to the lesser quality. Im sending the Clutch back to the place I got it, and I ordered an OEM Nissan One from my local Nissan dealer and paid 282.75 with my dealership discount. I got the clutch today, and its a completely different, pressure plate, disc, and throwout bearing. It was obviously more expensive, but its worth it to me to have the Original equipment. Especially since my Original Clutch lasted over 200K miles. I dont know why they would do such a thing, but whatever. Thats my experience so i wanted to share it. 1995 s14 - SR20det 1995 d21 - VG33e |

That's interesting. I've got a Nissan clutch kit sitting in my garage and I think it says "Key Value" on the box. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info.

Being a pro aircraft mechanic, every day I inspect parts before signing for them. If the parts do not look like the old ones, 9 out of 10 times it wont fit right or something wont be right.
If the part doesn't look what was removed reject the part. Always refer to the FSM pacifically the part break down pictures. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

Yes I do. I got one from a QX4 infinity for 500 bucks. Its in the truck, but I have yet to fire her up yet. The Clutch problem set me back a few days while I waited for the new one to arrive, but the motor is now in the truck. I just need to plug my harnesses in, and some other small things.
I might do a write-up on it once im done, since the only write-up on the vg33e hardbody swap entails swapping out crankshafts and accessories and so on. 1995 s14 - SR20det 1995 d21 - VG33e |
