I know the yota axle has alot more support than my c200. and the one im looking at has 4.10's in it and im pretty sure i have 4.11's right now. I eventually want to swap a toy front axle or maybe a narrow 44 out of a wag or something, and dont plan on doing it soon, but I was wondering if a 87 axle complete from drum to drum for 50 bucks would be something i should grab up real quick

the '86 and up toy axles are 3" wider in the rear then '85 and down. i am running a set of '84's right now, but am looking for the '86 and up to swap in for the rear with the ifs hub conversion up front. to run the front you need to cut and reweld the knuckles on so you can flip the axle so its a drivers drop.

well, they only have the rear, plus 85 was the last yota with a SFA right? and I dont need to worry about what drop do I since its a 720 and the output is in the center, I can go either way I thought. but the SAS wont be for a while, I was just looking at a somewhat cheap/easy way of giving myself some aftermarket support for my rear. of course if i did regear I wouldnt have 4wd til I did the front, but it would just give me motivation to save up for it...

If you flip the axle the wheels will turn the wrong way...

Since toyota 3rd members are removable, you flip the housing over, and then install the 3rd member in it's normal low pinion configuration. There are 4 hholes that line up, the rest need to be welded shut, and new holes drilled & tapped. Then as the poster said you cut & turn the balls 180 degrees, and you've just switches which side drop axle you have.

Wow, I didn't know you could do that. Good idea!

A rear axle swap is pretty straight forward, nothing complicated. The truck will drive different since the rear axle will be wider.

If you plan to go with a dana 44 up front I would go with a h233b or D44 out back. There's plenty of after market for d44.
