The chain is known to stretch a bit and rub against the timing cover, that would be my guess. Get that chain replaced soon if that's the case.

Yep, chain guides do wear. I would have it checked out as soon as possible, as the loss of a chain guide means that the chain is going to move around too much and could jump a tooth. You should be able to get a timing chain kit (or at least the needed parts: upper & lower sprockets, chain, tensioner(s), front main seal, and chain guides) to do the replacement yourself. You could tear it apart (as per the manual) and see what parts need replaced first.
I did the chain on my old 280z in a couple of days on a weekend.. the thing had nearly eaten through the guides and the sprockets were so worn that the teeth were razor sharp (they should be almost square!). --------------------------- "I'm just a bill... on Capitol Hill.." |
