So I have a line on a complete rear axle, with disks and 4.6 gears for $170. Also have a line on a front end (IFS) from a SAS, with 4.6's for free. So my question is, will I notice much of a difference between the 4.3's that I have now and the 4.6's? Also, I know the rear brakes don't do much, so is there that much of a benefit from swaping to disks other than easier serviceability? Do you guys think it is worth $170? Looking for opinions, thanks.

Just my opinion, but yeah, I would do it. Especially for that higher altitude. I think you can expect a small minor difference.

I also hate changing drum brakes, that's a good reason for me as well.

For that money, I'd do it too.

You'll probably need the proportioning valve from a disc brake equipped truck as well.

smiley4I wish mine had disks, I got my rear for 200 and it wasn't a direct bolt up. But there is a nice difference from 4.3 to 4.6, not a great one but still nice. smiley4

Thanks for the input, I just need to fudge the budget and come up with some money. I can still get the 4.6, whole third for $60, so I may just do that if I don't have enough for the whole axle. Thanks again.

If/when you do it let me know. If I'm available I'll help you out. It could be fun. I could even probably get my boss to help out too if you wanted to do it at my place. If you don't do it let me know and I'll see if the wife will let me buy the parts for my beast.

Do it you'll be happy. I did that with my 86.5 KC HB. It turned 33's like 31's.

Thanks for the offer Bill. I'll probably be doing the steering this weekend, and I may try to do my front brakes as well. Not sure about the gears, I'll probably be picking up the front end stuff today or tomorrow, and if I have the money I'll grab that axle this weekend. Not sure when I'll get around to installing it, but I will let you know. A guy from AC lives in Aurora also, he's the guy that told me about all this stuff. He said he can swap a third in 20 minutes, he's done it 5 times recently, so maybe i can get him to help me with that. Either way, I'll let you know and maybe we can meet up. Thanks again.
