I have an RD107 (or RD27) that has been installed into an R200A frontend. I need the ARB recommended torque spec, if any, for the single bolt that holds the drivers side axle shaft/hub onto the differential case. Nissan recommends 15 ft. lbs., but that must be too much because the spider gears bind up when I torque it to that. In fact, I cant even torque it down to 25 inch lbs. before it binds.
Anyone have an installation manual handy? Scott 86.5 HB SE-V6 KC 4x4 86.5 HB Longbed XE 91 Chevy 1500 Sport |

do you have a FSM or are you asking for arb's manual?

23-31 lb-ft is the Nissan specs from the FSM. All that is supposed to happen is the splines bottom out in the spider gear. To me, it sounds like something is not stacked correctly and is making the flange "clamp" against the outer surface of the carrier assembly, or that the ARB is not machined properly and the inside of the spider gear is "too deep".
*edited to add* Thinking here that maybe the cross-pin in the ARB is installed backwards? It is probably machined for clearance for that bolt on one side only? Might want to pull it and see. That bolt needs to be plenty tight. If it comes loose you risk the possibility of the flange rocking in the carrier assembly and either shearing or ruining your ARB, or both. |
