My trans is really starting to whine and I am looking at a replacement. Is there anything that can be done to improve our transmissions? I am doing the SAS at the end of this month and want the new transmission to hold up to the 37" tires. I know about the cooler bypass stuff but what about the internals?

I don't want to pull a Mikey and blow crap up on it's madien voyage. j/k Big Grin

I don't think there is anything you can do.. Except an engine swap... Frown I don't think Nissan trannys are built to handle more than a 32.. Wink

Oh, and for the record, I didn't make it to the maiden voyage... I made it to the freeway. Mad

Well, I have lost 3rd gear and first isn't doing much better. Crap, well.....it's going to have to wait cause the axle swap is happening regardless.

Will a Frontier V6 tranny bolt up?

The bellhousings should be identical between the 3.3L and the 3.0L, since they are basically the same block. The only thing I am not sure about is the splines, flywheel dimensions, and clutch requirements of the 3.3L tranny. Knowing Nissan tends to make things interchangeable, it should work fine. Would be worth a try if you have access to a spare tranny.

Good, that's what I wanted to hear. Big Grin I know the Frontier trannys were upgraded and I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them. I don't have a spare but am going to call a local trans shop and see what they got.

BTW-I have an auto.

Mcsoo, I can't believe you are dissing Nissan Transmissions. Yours had like 140k on it I only got 128,000 on mine before it blew. Do you think it's because you had alot of miles and beat the hell out of it previously is why it blew? I'll highly doubt you won't get that many miles out of a 700R4 or a tH400. My 79 Blazer K-5's TH400 blew at 104,750 miles. Yes I know they are cheaper to rebuild. I don't think it is fair to assume things are crap if they got alot of use. Why is it that 1st gen Ford Broncos are using Nissan Steering boxes on thier rigs now for a aftermarket replacement? Anyway my 2 cents... Anyway it's too bad my G/F rolled the pathy or I would be still wheeling it. Anyway my tranny is still for sale if you want it Matt. I'll even throw in the dual transmission coolers.

That's funny. I had 128 and spare change on mine when it went. Not 140, but actually 128...

If no one buys the 700r4, I'm gonna rebuild it myself because the rebuild kit is like 60 bucks, and they sell books on it. Nissan rebuild kit is 180 and there aren't any books.

I don't know of ANYONE running a Nissan box on their EB. They are all running AGR systems. Confused Doesn't matter anyway. I'll be swapping to a Toy IFS box in time, and hydro assist.
