I was wondering anyone concider swapping the I Q45 engine into thier HB or Pathy? It is a 4.5L V-8 that puts out 280HP. I wonder if the engine would mate up to the bell housing on our transmission or if you would have to make a adapter plate to do it.

you are gonna have to come up with some kind of an adapter to fit the tranny and the transfer case together...

The only problem with that setup in the Patrol.. is that the tranny is so long that with a transfer case, the driveshaft would only be about 1ft long.

With the 302, C6, and NP205 in my patrol, the rear driveshaft is just barely long enough.. and thats with the pulleys being 1/4" from the radiator.

If you could adapt a shorter stubby transmission to the Q45 engine, you could easily put it in there though. Big V8s fit with ease.

What would be even cooler.. and a little more low-tech would be to find an Nissan President 4L V8.. its basically a big oldschool iron-block pushrod V8 with Nissan build quality. smile Adapt a GM or Ford tranny to it and you'd have a real unique Nissan-Powered monster!

I'm slobbering over that engine. One of those got shoehorned into a Frontier pickup a couple years back. Unfortunately, the truck went to the crusher since. It was a 2wd tho.

John, no, project X has the 3.5 out of a QX4. Marshall, probably.
