well when i do my sas, i want to go with 4.9 gears and am looking for a 4.9 xterra 3rd and i can put my diff with the xterra ring gear into the xterra 3rd. so it just so happens that as soon as i start this look... i see someone on NOR is getting rid of his 4.9 xterra 3rd with limited slip. it has 50K on it and he wants 300 bucks for it. is this a good price? i didnt they would cost this much. but what do you guys think? good price or could i do better?

also... can i use that limited slip in my differential? i was just wondering because i kno the hb and xterra spline counts on the axle shafts are different. id like to use that pack the plates together real tight in the limited slip and do away with my p.o.s. lockright

Have seen them go for less, and they're expensive to ship. Watch ebay too.

A fellow N4W member got one off e-bay for 75+shipping. Shipping you are going to look at another $75-90. I've seen HB 3rd on e-bay for around 150-200. If you look around you might be able to find a deal. I just read on this board the other day that the 02-04(?) LSD's are crap. You have to spend 150 to add/replace discs to make them act as a LSD.

Limited Slip = Limited Grip

Welded, Spooled, Mech Locker, and Selectable Locker. That's the only way to get 100% grip!

yea, i thought 300 was a bit much. i'll look around. thanks.

Yes, i kno that lockers are the only way to get 100% grip. i just drive the truck on the road a lot too and after having a lockright in the back right now, i just dont think a locker is a very good idea for a DD that only wheels 2 or 3 times a month. the tire wear just isnt worth it(though my lockright is spooled up right now). and i dont have the cash for a selectable locker. i just dont know what i'm going to do. i may just leave it open/open for a little while untill i figure out what i want.

That's why an ARB is good. Open for the street. Locked when you need it.

It took me months of searching ebay and car-part.com. Finally got one for 195+50 shipping.

$245 is not bad for a boltin. Just need to swap carriers.
