Let's pretend that I have lotsa money hiding somewhere, begging to be spent. Let's also say that I am craving a v8 under the hood of Mongo.

With that being said, what would you run to maintain ODBII compliancy (AZ requires that), including the trans and tcase?

Let's have fun with this. I was thinking a GM vortec... probably from a silverado Wink

Remember, it HAS to be ODBII compliant for street legality/registration.

I don't know as you'd be able to get away with any engine swap like that, even if you did keep it ODBII.

The Chevy stuff would always be good though as their ODBII computers are fully programmable with the proper programmer.

I believe it's legal to take something from the same year or newer. I believe OBDII ports are universal, aren't they?

Obviously all sensors need to be in place so you'll need engine, transmission, wiring harness, ECU, and all sensors from the donor truck.

It'd probably be cheaper and easier in the long run to go buy a damned Chevy and SAS it.

The hot V8 swap in the sheep herd right now is an LS1--not the cheapest but aluminum (wt savings), lots of HP, terrific aftermarket with lots of bolt-on drivetrain upgrades, and wiring harnesses-computers readily available from the hotrodder market.

combine all that with low range Atlas t-case, and you're set up! Wink

...and there are teflon-lined cylinder walls...

and, if i'm not mistaken, 3.827, isn't that bad of a first gear ratio from an auto... Smokin

the CORR Titan uses the stock block, cyliners heads, and is naturally aspirated to over 715hp... lots of potential for a stock block...
they're the only car manufacturer to use the stock block and cylinder heads in a full-blown CORR race truck... Toyota has plans to attempt that next year, though...Pee

but. also... keeping in mind money is no object... might as well get a 572 ramjet and be done with it... haha or a Cummins deisel and put the banks kit on it Wink

the infinity v8 is the same block and everything used in the 5.6's...
I'm not sure as to how they made all that power... but they had a HUGE article in the december (i think) issue of DirtSports mag... i'll try and find it and see if they say what parts they added on to it, but it doesn't run nitrous...

The new LS9 for the camaros looks pretty sweet. Est. 650-630hp on a dead stock motor.

The LS1 swaps seem to be started to become more price friendly as far as getting them as the LS2 and the LS7 are becoming more popular. I would like to get a LS1 long block to run on propane, I saw one go on ebay for $900 a while back and I am still kicking myself that I didnt get it.

Yeah, I was thinking an LS1 would be fun, if I didn't go the vortec route.

This is just a "realistic fantasy" thread, but kinda probing for ideas too Wink

...you never know. Strange things have happened down here before.

What about crate motors? If I were going to go GM< it would have to be the Ram Jet 350. I wish Ford would do a crate motor like that. And if money were no object just go big block and register the truck in a state with no emmissions checks. I also second the get the axles 1st.
Lator....
