Just wanted to comment on how my eletric fan install went on my 93 4cyl hardbody.

I got a $65 16" Proform fan and thermostat switch from summitracing.com

Slapped it all on and I am very impressed with the power gains I felt. The stock fan turned freely with the truck off but I still wonder if I had a bad fan clutch because I gained a ton of power throughout the entire RPM band and can only guess I will see a decent MPG increase. I will report back once I put a tank of gas through it as well.

Well worth the money!!

Now try going slow in 4LO. Keep your eye on the temp gauge and be prepared to stop.

I had a similar fan and it could not keep up. It was about 1200 CFM.

If yours has a full shroud and is at least 4,000 CFM, you should be fine.

The power gains are noticable. You are certainly right about that.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

Keep us posted with details. I put two 12" PermaCools on my truck and with the A/C on in the summer it would get to an uncomfortable point on the gauge at times. I may look at stepping up to an aluminum radiator when I get the truck back on the road. Love to hear if the 16" does it for ya. Wink

Ask me how IFS can lead to a 5 year registration lapse....

It's this fan.

2100CFM will do fine keeping this little truck cool. DO NOT use these fans as pushers, pusher fans just do not work the same as a puller. Granted it's only been 65* around here but in stop and go traffic you can see the needle go down once it kicks in. It covers the whole radiator from top to bottom with about 4 inches on the sides exposed. I've let it idle for about 30 minutes with revving and slow speeds. I'm pretty confident it will be fine. Not TOO sure about when it gets back up to 90* but I will cross that road when I come to it. I need a new radiator anyways and I would upgrade to a small aluminum.
4,000CFM shouldn't be needed for a little 4cyl with street driving.

My 408W in my mustang still has a 5 year old Black magic fan pushing 2650CFM and does fine in the heat.

To be honest I'm not really a fan of the twin smaller fans. Unless they are the high dollar ones that are at least dual 15inchers, but our radiators are too small for that. I like the large fans that cover the entire radiator. If I offroaded more seriously I would offset one 16 inch to the passengers side for a puller and another offset to the drivers side as a pusher to combine the air movement to 4200CFM.

This 16inch fan pulls really well for only 8 amps. I wish it pulled another 500 CFM but like I said we will see what it does in the heat. I like the electric fan because it lets me run the engine a little warmer which can net in better MPG if the stock fan was overcooling. Which I think it was.

I don't think you can determine the CFM output by just multiplying by two. There are way more factors to consider. As for the 12" fans, they are rated at 2300 CFM if I remember correctly. Given the surface area, two 12" fans actually have a larger cooling surface than one 16" fan. Not saying that it won't work for you but out here when it's 110 out and you are sitting in traffic it can prove to be stressful at times. Eyes

I wasn't trying to sound like a negative nancy. My apologies. Chug

I've been using dual taurus fans for several years now. They do an incredible job cooling the radiator and I have never ever had an overheating issue. Have you removed the fan clutch assembly?

Alternately, you can get some old Stanza fans. They probably aren't as good as the Taurus fans but I've had them for a few years with no issues. The best part is that they fit the D21 radiators almost perfectly....heck one of the bolt holes lines up.

I drove around last summer when it was in the high 90s and only needed the second one a few times.

Last weekend it was in the high 70s. Temp was at about 200 with one fan running, but quickly dropped to 180 when I turned the 2nd one on.

One is switched and the other is on a thermostat that doens't work very well anymore so I have to keep my eye on it.

Your ok!

Sorry I should have specified. 4200 CFM of air movement between the two, not combined. The Taurus fans pull some serious air. The Mark IV fans are two speed and I think can move 4700CFM. But startup amps is something stupid like 35 or 40. The Taurus ones are a good medium with their own shroud and won't kill the alternator.

I'm pretty happy with my $80 setup so far.

ive had some maxima fans on my hardbody v6 for a few years. had a flex-a-lite before that and it was no where near enough, plus it was overpriced. the maxima fan does excellent. it can be running hot on a hot day, flip the fan on it will pull the temp down pretty quick.

also on a hot day i can sit with the ac on and the fan handles it no problem. the flex a lite coulnd never do that.

the key is covering the whole radiator. the stock electic fans are the way to go(maxima/altima/taurus) find a decent one at the j-yard and run with it.

Oh but yes you get a nice power gain but also i love how quiet the motor is without pushing a clutch fan.

I still havent switched mine out Frown I like the push/pull idea, like stated before, when its 110/115 and your at a light with the ac on, things tend to get a bit warm...
