Well I broke one of the bolts that holds my cat in place while installing my flowmaster muffler. I could just weld the flange together and gut the cat (no emissions here).

It would be a lot easier to just run a 2 1/4" pipe where the cat is now though. I am worried about backfiring, would I have too little back pressure without the cat and a flowmaster muffler?

I actually have the exact set-up on my 90. I have no cat and a flowmaster muffler. The only thing I noticed was a lopy idle and a faint gas smell. I say do it.

No lift, 35" MT/R's. Chaos is no longer just a theory. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/719499

Did your gas mileage drop any?

Honestly, gas mileage was the least of my concern. I have 35's and am real tall so I really wasnt concerned with decresed mileage. I dont think it has much of an effect so someone correct me if I am wrong.
