the oil filter is in a very tight location. I saw recently on a web site an oil filter relocation device to allow for a larger oil filter. Anyone done this and what comments do you have about it?

There's all kind of setups; single remotes, dual remotes, bypass filters... I've got a "dual remote" under the passenger seat- above the right side of the rear transmission crossmember on my 98Frontier. SOme folks- dpeneding on their rig- mount in the engine compartment, in the right fendeer well, under the front bumper. I change my filters out every 12,500 miles. Total capacity is about 5 3/4 quarts( up 2 qarts over stock). Temps run about 210 when all warmed up.

Yeah, I haven't done mine yet, but I'm planning on using a dual remote and mounting them where my battery is currently located. But free place under the hood or in the passenger compartment is good.

Which engine are you guys talking about? On my '93 4x4 D21 I change the filter from the right wheel well. I changed the fasteners on the flexible well liner and just use a couple of plastic thumb screws to hold it in place. When I need to change the filter I back out those screws and reach right in and remove the filter using an end mount filter wrench and an extension about a foot long. Just a few minutes for the whole job.

Yep, the Frontier 4 banger is a dual cam and the oil filter on a 4x4 is a real bitch to get to. I've thought about one of these kits for a while now but have scratched my head on where to put it.

More or less. DOHC, 16 valve. I believe the intake is different, but the tranny and driveline is the same.

They made the change in 98.
