Alright guys, cough it up. Big Grin Carrier bearings are out and 1 pc driveshafts are the way to go..., right? I've searched about every page on this entire forum (as well as others)and I'm finding a ton of good info about the swap from a 2 pc to a 1 pc driveshaft, but it's all scattered among a bunch of different posts. So, I thought I'd create a summary thread.
I've read a couple of negative speculations about why you shouldn't do it, but I can't seem to find any actual negative experience or updates about long term reliability. (Maybe no news is good news.) I can't even find a good explanation why Nissan used a 2 pc ds with carrier bearing in the first place. The 2001-2004's changing to a 1 pc seems to be proof of Nissan realizing the error of their ways. I've noticed that quite a few of you did the swap at least a year or two ago. So I'm asking anyone who has done it to give us an update. Any rubbing on the crossmember at full extension. Any problems with a lift? Any prematurely worn components because of increased drive line angle? Any problems what-so-ever?

Thanks,
RoHo

91' KC Hardbody. I just did one recently so I can not attest to any reliability issues. I've got BDS springs and Daystar Supershackles for lift. I havn't had it offroad yet but I jacked the rear up to check for rubbing. I've got pics if there is a permanent place to put them.

Well considering Nissan went with one piece driveshafts on the 03+ im thinking there are no issues, at least ive had none on my 03.

I've had my 1pc drive shat or the better part of 07 and now 08. Here's the way I look at it. I don't see any major advantages or disadvantages over 1pc or 2 pc drive shafts.

When my carrier bearing went out I got a 1 piece d/s so I would never have to worry about a carrier bearing again. In my opinion this is the only reason get a 1 piece drive shaft.

I've run a 1 piece since 2001 or 2002 and have no regrets. i've had to rebalance my driveshaft a couple times and replace u-joints but that could be the 4wheeling i've done. You have to be very careful about it clearing the crossmmember and you may have to notch it a bit which isn't an issue.

I replaced 95 hardbodys with a one piece from a frontier because my driveshaft bushings were shot. My truck doesnt have a lift, and has 33" tires... Ive had the driveshaft for about a year now and I beat the crap out of the truck, jumping shit smacking the bottom on rocks and shit, bottoming out, and its my daily driver. I just recently had it out when i did my motor swap and its still in great condition. Best thing i ever did to the truck was that driveshaft.
