I spoke with a guy at Pro Gear, I think it was Mike. He said it sounded like the the pinion bearing like everyone has been telling me and they should be able to check it out before the weekend. I just finished taking the third member out and I'm going to deliver it tomorrow after work. There were not any metal chips or shavings in the pumpkin and the gears looked ok but I'm going to take it in anyway.

The heavy vibration I had this morning was not nearly as bad this afternoon. Have you ever heard of a freshly greased CV or driveshaft slip yoke causing vibration? I think the clunking noise I'm hearing is the freeplay in the pinion yoke rattling when the clutch grabs and releases as it engages, one of several tranny problems I've been having. I've got a whole new tranny and clutch waiting in my garage.

Chuck, I hope they are able to help you so you can make this run buddy!

They've done my 5.14 gears and I've only driven my truck around the Phoenix area for short distances, but it seems to be good so far and Robin has been romping on his junk for quite a while now without problems. Chuck, I believe is his name, is the one that is quite familiar with our diffs.

Took my third member to Pro Gear today. The pinion nut had worked its way loose but not much and doesn't look like any serious damage was done. No dealers in the area had the nut in stock so they used a lot of lock-tight and put it back together. The gear pattern is great in coast but off a little in drive. I spent a lot of time talking with Chuck, Mark, and ??? The axle is back together but I still need to bleed the brakes and get wheels on it. I recommend anyone replacing their gears install a new pinion nut, they are about 10 bucks locally. The guys at Pro Gear were great and I spend a while chatting with them. After talking with them, I think I'm going to alter my plans for my SAS a little.

What did the parts cost? Labor? I fried my brand new clutch trying to turn my 33's with 4.3 gears on DeSoto last weekend, time to do something about that...

Spike.. I have a set of front/rear 4.62s for you. I know you were interested in them.

Spike, I had all the parts, 5.14 gears from AC and rebuild kit = way too much cash.

I think the labor ran about $150.

The better option would probably be the 4.62s that I have along with the Calmini crawler gears. You wouldnt have any more clutch problems with that setup.

Spike, I've got the better part of $2k in my rear gears and locker if that gives you an idea of cost. Frown

I agree with John. His setup + crawler gears is definately the way to go.

i third that opinion, grab the cheap stuff from john and grab the crawler gears, otherwise itll be around 1500 just for parts, no lockers and no labor.
