I have a fairly new to me 1995 Nissan XE 4x4 pickup.

Every time I start up and take off, for the first five minutes or so there is a high pitched whine coming from what sounds like the tnasmission, but it diminishes after that and goes away.

I also have a little clatter from the right hand side of the V6 engine that also rattles on start-up then goes away when it warms up.

Anyone else have these symptoms?

What could it be?

5 speed manual trans? How many miles on it? They should be overfillled and extra 1.5 quarts as the fill hole on the side of the trans is too low.
Miles since last motor oil change? got a Fram oil filter in there? or Nissan OEM filter, Napa GOld, Pure One, Mobil 1?
What about timing belt change?

Probably have cracked exhaust manifold as that's common w/ most of the engines as they appropach 100K miles or more.

I've never had a V-6, but have read many a post dealing w/ the frustration of removing broken exhaust manifold studs. I think reppplacemnts are possibly stronger, as are the replacemet manifolds, but don't quote me.

Yes to most of your questions.

Five speed.

500 miles since last oil change.

160,000 km on the truck

Napa gold filter.

Yes, I have heard about the tranny needing to be overfilled. And yes I have heard about the broken manilfold studs too.

All good points to be reminded of. Thank you.
Belt has been changed

My questions about the oil had to do with possible "lifter" clatter. SOundslike a few of yours onthe right bank are slow to pump up.

COuld also be related to exhaust maifold. Hard to be sure w/o actually heairng it.

The whine sounds like the pilot bearing is tired -in the clutch.
DOne the timing belt?- the mileage you stated- it's time.
