Hello,
Can anyone brief me on how to install new front auto locking hubs? My 94 came from Phoenix, making awful noises, I'm assuming they need replaced. Also, do you think its safe to grab some from a salvage yard?

Thanks!!

Welcome to N4W Wink

It's an easy swap. Remove and install.

I'd put the truck on a lift to make sure that's the problem. The hubs don't break easily, unless somebody really beat on it.

Hi Will and thanks! Why the lift? Is there a test I could do without a lift to confirm it? I do have a floor jack and jack stands. There are some hellacious noises coming from that area..

Thanks again!

If you can safely get all 4 tires off the ground in your driveway then go for it. Wink

Can you describe the noise? Speed dependent? 4wd only?

The noise is grinding and clicking, both sides. Started when shifting out of fwd to 2 high, now it does it when in or out, randomly. I am hoping to take a look today.

The auto hubs won't unlock unless you shift back to 2wd and back up a few feet. Maybe as much as 15 feet if they're old and sticky.

I'd pull the hubs off and take a look. Take some pictures and post em. Wink

I saw the pictures. The CV looks...rusty. Might be time to disassemble everything and clean/replace it. Bearings included.
