I was doing some wheeling on a simple trail. I switched to 2wd. for a little bit, and when I went to switch back to 4 high, it acted just like it was in neutral. 4 low still works although it seems more like 4 high ... I haven't driven more than 15 feet or so in in 4 wheel drive since, so I am not sure. I am guessing that I will need to get the Transfer Case fixed up by a pro, but if anyone has any "simple" things I should check first, let me know.

On my truck, I noticed that it was extremely hard to shift from 4low back into 4 high when I bought it. The previous owners never used 4wd, so the components just didnt want to work right. Make sure you are pushing the shift knob toward the floor when you shift back up to 4high, and the transmission must be in neutral when you do this. If its in drive, it wont go into 4HI.

If this doesnt help, then definitely have it checked out. One thing you may want to check though, there is a nut that holds the transfer control lever rod to the shift lever. crawl under the truck and make sure this linkage looks ok and that all fasteners are secured.

Were you able to get it back into 2wd to drive home ok? If so, there may be something wrong internally and you should have it checked.

I was able to make it home just fine (other than some yelling from my wife about how I spend too much money on the truck to beat on it the way I do). 2 wheel and 4-low both work just fine .... Thanks for the input ..

A guy from the other board 4x4parts.com had a problem similar to this it was because the notched peice the transfer case lever was missing you might check and see if yours maybe loose? It looks like a M on the top of the case.

Thanks SHAD, I wish You had some pics, so I could see what You are talking about .. It seems like the lever clicks into four different possitions, but I can't be sure that it is not just "slipping" past one.

When I did my body lift I found that I had to replace the lower part of the linkage. The rubber boot over one of the joints had trapped water in the joint and it was rusted almost solid. I found that the shifting was more positive and much easier with the new shifter.
