John or anyone:

On Tuesday night we plan to camp near Bushnell Tanks and then head back out to SR87 on Wed morning to go north to SR188 and back to Punkin Center to run Reno east to west.

If we have the gas, would anyone be interested instead to run it west to east, fuel up at Punkin Center and then run back east to west? That gives us more time in the dirt and much less highway time.

Thoughts?

Jim W., DL, and Flip's wife will be meeting us that morning in Sunflower about 9 am, so we need to pick them up.

Works for me.. Either way is incredibly fun. Go one way and you deal with climbing 2ft shelves in spots, the other way you deal with dropping off them. You get crazy moguls both ways. Only downside is that the unlocked folks will have to bypass the uphill moguls on the west side.

We can debate it on the run. Either way will work well.

how much is gas at Punkin Center? One nice thing about that plan is that we can air up at PC and then wont have to ruin tires driving back to town.. thats going to be a long drive.

Ooohh.. I gotcha! thats a good idea! Lets do it!! Smile

Its really not too long of a trail.. and cutting across backwards sure beats the highway!! This may require us to do an afternoon gas run down SR87, since we'll then be looking at 2.5 days of trails w/o a gas stop! I say we head back to the gas station after the coves.. Hell, we could even take the back way south from the fence road, down that bigass hill, and then out the green gate. Would be more fun, and might be quicker than driving all the way north to the El Oso road turnoff only to go south to get gas from there.

The only problem with this would be Mike's friend who wants to meet up Tuesday morning..

That would work too. Or we can just meet him at the gas station that morning. Tell him to wait there until we get there. Small price to pay, but if he wants to run with us, thats what he'll have to do. Since we're not sure exactly what timetable we'll be running with, its really hard to say where we'll be at any given time.

Next year, I think we should either incorporate definite meeting points for each day.. or flat out say that if you dont show up on this day at this point, you'll be on your own as far as meeting up.

Hey, is Jim gonna be driving the red bumblebee, or riding along? The more trucks we can get, the better.

I'm down for both. I don't see a difference in the gas. There is gas at Punkin Center if we access it via the trail or via 87, in fact 87 might take more gas going up that hill.

I say run it both ways.

Either way, I am sure that he will be flexible in meeting us. Who all has extra gas, and how much, I will have about 5 gallons is all.

Stick with Plan A. DR should have enough fuel not to have to go back to Ft. McDowell, so he'll go up to the trailhead and wait for everyone even if they go back for gas.
