In a word, yes. There is no gas stop planned until the morning of Day 3. Same goes for the second leg...the afternoon of day 5 will be our gas stop. You may be able to do day 4 and 5 on one tank, but I'll about guarantee we won't be able to do Day 1, Day 2, and the morning of Day 3 without a few extra gallons. We run the coves, then head out to do Sunflower mine, and then drive the highway north to SR188 and back SE to Punkin Center before we hit a gas station. I guess you could side track back down to Ft. McDowell before Sunflower mine if you had to, but that will add about 90 minutes and may have us finishing that trail kinda late.

John, whaddya think?

walmart sells the 5 and 6 gallon plastic cans pretty cheap. They don't leak as long as you don't fill them up all the way to the top. That's all I have.

If we have to, we can jet down to McDowell to gas up. We'll find out how everyone is doing on gas that morning and play it by ear. I'll be bringing 10 or 11 extra gallons. That'll be enough to fill up my truck and then some that morning.

La Rada's (sp??) out in Mesa is pretty badass...

It is a big yellow building with blue trim on Apache Blvd. Right next to all the dealerships there. I am not sure of the cross streets, it has been forever since I have been there, since I now reside in Tucson...

Hope this helps. Wink

Duerk, if you can find the NATO jerrycans, they usually sell for $10-25 each, depending where you get them. I got mine for $10 each online. Do NOT get the US screw lid type of jerrycans.. they are a fire hazard. You can tell the NATO cans by the cam latch that locks the lid closed. With the NATO cans, you can put them inside at any angle with no risk of leakage.

Mine had a little diesel in them when I got them. I just filled them up with gas and didnt had any problems.

I just got the Wally world ones. Green for water red for gas. I stopped in Laredas last week and they are pricing for war these days. Funny I just got off the phone with MUD who found a good deal and now I can't remeber where.

Yep, that would be the one. Sorry for slaughtering the name. I used to buy all my camping crap there. Most of the stuff is relatively inexpensive... Have fun! Wink

orange, i have a couple of 5 gallon containers I use for my quad. You are welcome to borrow one if you want, it doesnt leak..... it's the kind with a big long hose on the top. it will have some 110 fuel in the bottom of the container, but it wont hurt anything putting in 5 gallon of fresh fuel.

Orange.. kickass.. how much did it run you? I'd like to pick up a couple more. They are great for safely keeping gas around in the garage, since they dont leak fumes at all.

One thing you NEED to know about these cans.. when you fill them, place them on the GROUND first. Since they are metal, static discharge could occur if they are filled in or on a truck. Although, the plastic cans scare me even more.. You can feel the hair on your arm moving from the static electricity when you fill those. These metal ones dont do that at all.

Also, when you put the spout on, dont force the cam latch all the way down.. it'll break the spout. I broke one the first time I used it. The cam latch just needs to snug it up.

It was a little on the ex$pen$ive side. It was about $21 but then you had to buy the spout for another $7. In a sense it is not bad since it will likely last forever.
