Right now, I'm thinking we should include these trails next year:

- Martinez Mine
- Lower AND upper Ajax

then possibly head south on the backroads toward Tuscon in the middle of the week.

- Charleau Gap
- other trails down there.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I'd really like to work in a trip down the Hassayampa for part of a day, from Wickenburg to I10, (or even further), but not sure where it'd fit. Tucson has got to have some nice washes we could scout out.

Hmm didn't we run one of the Ajaxes in 4? or bypass it? I loved Martinez mine trail..even though I had to be towed through half of it.

Yeah, Keith we did.

There are several trails down by Oracle, John. Charauleau Gap, Chivo, Reddington, Rice Peak.

Not to mention backway to Mt. Lemmon, and tons of washes over on that side of Tucson.

Highway 79 to Oracle is a short hop from Florence.

Hassayampa is soooooooooooooo far from all that though. Like plane ticket far.

We ran part of lower ajax on AZ 4. Upper ajax makes lower ajax look like a freeway. Smile

Im sure we can find another wash that would work instead of the Hassayampa

Something a couple of days closer to Maryland would be nice Wink

I hope I can make it out there next year, but it's a tough sell.

Keep in mind the backroad up Mt. Lemmon is practically a paved road. It is extremely dusty too, but good scenery. If we ran it from Oracle up, there are some nice camping spots up high on the Mountain. The only drawback is that these spots are mostly "park and flop." They aren't very secluded, and would not work well with 20+ trucks (like what we had this year).

Yeah, I think the AZ Runs are going to have to branch out a bit. Towards Tuscon would be nice, or maybe head out west towards the Kofas. But it gets flat out that way.

What we need to do is a week like up on the Navajo Res and 4 corners area. There is some STUNNING scenery up there. Enough small towns for supplies and gas. But it is alot higher ground, and would be frigid during Spring Break.

If you are actually gonna go that far to the 4 corners, you might as well end up in Durango....Absolutely beautiful....wolfcreek pass etc.

You're officially a rock crawler now Stone! 3 days in beautiful desert scenery with nothing but connecting (although easy) trails is boring?

I'm more into scenery than seeing how much trouble I can get into. (btw, didn't you get stuck on a rock? Big Grin) Sorry bud, had to.

Weren't there two Stone rescues? And the lurking cow, Mike L. disappearing in the night, and Brenda meeting Brian along the freeway in the middle of nowhere.

Trails were easy - but there was alot of other fun stuff.

Isn't Wolf Creek pass between Alamosa and Pagosa Springs? That's quite a bit east from the SW corner of Colorado. I could be wrong but I worked up there 25 years ago.

Nope, hit that one rock going up a wash looking for a campspot. Rounded a corner and the sun was hiding behind it.

I liked the hike to the Palms, and heck I have fun in line at the bank. But the Kofas were uber fine mega dust, and I'd take my Titan in there.

Navajo Res and 4 corners area

While the area is beautiful up there, keep in mind that anything Res related will involve permits/fees, no firearms and no alcohol. I would think that a group of 20 rigs would attract a lot of attention and scrutiny on the Reservation.

Some of the trails up there also require a Navajo Guide, which is more dinero.

Just something to consider. Sure is pretty up around 4 Corners, though.

Ok, no firearms I might belive...permits/fees ok, I knew there would be something, but there is a permit for State Lands too. But no alcohol...when was the last time you were on a res.

The bulk of AZVI will be in the Oracle area. Got some prerunning to do. Might do an FJ area trail on the way.

I'm with Stone...there's gotta be some washes to run between Florence and Oracle.

I will see what I can find down here. I have a coupla friends here who are with the Tucson Rough Riders club, and coincidentally, they are the people who maintain Charleau Gap.

I would be down with another "pre-run" on that trail Wink

The only thing tho, we would have to find adequate parking/camping spots for all the trucks.

Topo, Az Atlas & Gazetteer, and Az Road & Recreation Atlas bristle with roads, trails, and washes between the Kelvin HW and Oracle Junction. Cottonwood & Donnelly Wash are shown to go for several miles, join together and get to Freemen Road just outside of Barkerville.

There are a few scatter private ranches out there, no treaspassing signs could get in the way.

Marshall's right, there be options...
