We need to get on the ball and start planning a good route for AZ Run 6. Smile

I'd like to ask those that have attended past runs..

What would you like to see on this next run?
What dont you want to see on AZ 6?
How many days next year? 5, 6, 7?
How do you feel about one day of hardcore rock crawling trails? ... (difficulty 4-5.5+ for those that want to really test their truck's limits)

I would like to see a trail(s) similar to AZ 4, I had a great time this year but I would totally be up for some nasty hardcore trails.

I want there to be a central camping area(leave the same spot every morning), and no street miles. Dennis said he knows a place like that, not sure what he called it though.

THen what's the point?

I wouldn't mind seeing more dificult trails, especially ones that have a bypass of some sort, but a central camping area? I can get that in Texas...

We wont do the central camping area.. it then becomes like GOX or some of the other events, not that thats bad, but its just not in the style of Arizona Run.

The fact that we're having to haul all the stuff we need for a whole week through the desert AND make it through the trails fully loaded is part of the fun. You get real good at streamlining your needs and deciding what you REALLY do and dont need when you have to deal with unpacking and repacking your truck every night at camp.

Dennis is probably thinking of the Florence Junction area or Table Mesa west area. While both have some great wheeling, we cant limit the run to one terrain or one climate. Theres a lot more to AZ than a 10 square mile area, which is why these runs tend to be long overland trips through many different landscapes.

I also wont let the run boil down to a couple of rock crawling washes. Its just not the same. We'll try to include a couple days of hardcore trails for the crawlers as wel as scenic and more moderate trail days for the overlanders.

A least a few nights in one spot would totally alleviate the stress we had a few of the days, no time to stop for anything because we gotta go, go, go to make it to camp.

So if there were four trails all rated difficult 3.5 to 4.5 in a central area that none of the out of state guys have run, would that area be excluded? Or would we have to run it in a way to move camp every night.

Cuz I know of such an area.........

BTW this years GOX was overland, and the previous years everyone stayed in a town/at condos.

Maybe just entertain the idea for a few nights in one spot......

The only reason we had to go go go this year was because ppl couldnt wait to set up camp.

I have no issues with taking my time and rolling into camp ~6pm.. I have lights on my truck for setting up camp after dark... its no big deal.

Honestly, I would actually prefer to take our time and get to camp "when we get there" rather than not getting a break on the trail and being hurried through it all... I didnt appreciate the tail end of the group being left behind multiple times on this run, it broke the group up and we ended up racing to catch up on the trail rather than enjoying the drive. I missed out on a lot of video and photo opportunities with the rest of the group because of it.

My truck is gonna be one slow moving truck next year with my loss of 2:1 and gain of 3.92:1. 4Hi stresses and heats up the tranny fluid too much, so I'll be stuck creeping along in low range if its not a dirt road. I wont be in a hurry to get anywhere.

Next year, I'm driving it at my own pace.. and will get coordinates for the camp sites ahead of time. I'm going to take my time to soak up the scenery and I'll get to camp whenever I get there..

mabye a couple nights in one spot, but that means we'd be running trails in FJ or Table Mesa.

I think it should be held closer to the east coast so more east coast guys can go. How hard is it to move the tails this way a bit?

<geekmode> I hope to have a car-puter by then too.. so Keith, we can set up a mobile wi-fi LAN to share mp3s while wheeling.. heck, I could even set up a streaming audio server or have webcams so you can spot yourself when wheeling.. lol </geekmode>

Hmmm I really like the idea of setting up a couple of base camps.

Stay in a central area for a couple of days, then move to the next for a couple more, etc.

Also I wouldn't mind seeing different parts, like areas down by Tucson. I know there is some sweet stuff down there. Old man drug me down there many times for wheeling/hunting as a kid.

For me, definately mixed environments from trail driving to hardcore.
