Saw your other post about liking technical stuff over mud.. This is going to be one great week for technical trails. These trails are by far some of the most technical I've ever done with the pathy. :P BTW< i posted my full address for you as well as links to mapquest directions in that thread if it helps. |

Thanks, John... I will be honest I am scared chitless that my alternator is going to fail. It is giving me no idication whatsoever that there is anything wrong...I guess I am just being overly paranoid. I have done many LONG road trips...longer than this one..but the pathfinder has NEVER left me stranded and I feel now is going to be the time it does so. Guess I will just load up every spare/tool I can cept for the spares I cannot afford. I need to convert this damn truck to GM alt...so much cheaper.

FOr peace of mind, you could pull it and have it tested before the trip. As long as your charge light is not on, you are golden. If it does come on, just turn off ALL electrical accessories and drive until you find a parts store.
FWIW, we will never be more than a few hours away from town on this year's run. If something does go out, we have some of the best & cheapest sources for OEM parts (ABC Nissan and Pinnacle Nissan!). On AZ Run II, we had an alternator go out and used a gas generator to get him back to town. On AZ Run III, Flip's alternator went out.. probably from all the mud. He had no problem driving all the way back to town on the battery. This year will be very easy on alternators, unless there is a lot of winching going on. It'll be dusty, but thats about it. If it makes you feel any better, I am still on my stock alternator, after 165k miles and many many deep murky water crossings. I'm sure you'll be fine. |
