will there be any mandatory mods needed to attend...im sure you wont tell anyone they cant go but what mods would you suggest or recommend to save a lot of trail trouble - i am seriously thinking about going but dont want to be a burden.

i have a 2000 Frontier CC with the stock LSD, body and susp lift and am soon to buy either 35s and trim a bunch or wuss out with 33s and be smarter

i plan to have the steering fix by then and sliders

Chris

Once we've run the few extreme trails we'll get a good idea as to exactly what will be required. I plan on putting up photos and info as we get it.

At this point, one thing that is HIGHLY recommended is a set of rock sliders to protect your rocker panels. You will need them and will probably use them pretty heavily. This year's run will feature more rock crawling obstacles than in years past.

Judging from your mods, you should be set. Definitely beef the steering - you'll thank yourself for that. Also, bring a spare tierod assembly.

John's right on the sliders as well. LSD should work well; lockers are better, though not mandatory except on 1-2 of the trails.

I'm committed that by end of November I'll have a full writeup on the trails along with all needed equipment prepared and in this forum.

STEERING STEERING STEERING!!! If you make one major decision on what to modify for the AZ run, MAKE SURE IT IS STEERING!!! I can't count the number of times I've seen steering break out here. In fact, I'm not sure if my drag link and tie rod are enough. I'm gonna sleeve them with some bigger tube. Smile Maybe some 1.5"

Mikey-- You talking any rig or being specific to nissans? Just asking since they are known to have a weak steering setup.

Nissan specific. Especially D22's. Tierods tend to snap like toothpicks when the CL's go bad.

Mainly Nissan specific. I don't know of too many other vehicles that have tie rods snap in half. BUT, IFS toyotas are pretty bad too. They tend to have problems when you lift them. Is J gonna have a solid front by IV?

BTW, I hope my steering is strong enough. Smile hehe

One of these days I'll get my rocker panels replaced w/some box tubing (they're bent to crap right now from MN rock crawling...Yes, MN has rocks! and big ones too! Very sharp, eats sidewalls for lunch!), so I can keep my rocker ground clearence, but actually use the rockers to slide over obstacles like a "slider". Just got some new buckets for my truck too. anyone need a bench? Man, I wich I could make it out to AZ. That looks like so much fun! Can't wait to see (drool... smiley32) the trail pics when ya'll get beck!

Not much you can do to the R&P setups. On the other hand, I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with those either.

I think that AZ Run IV is the same week as my spring break... any chance of an R50 making it through with m/t's(or would A/T's be a better choice?), and A-C lift?(and possible sliders if someone wants to fab some)

You should be able to make it through a lot of it. There are a few trails where you may get some underbelly dings.. Hackberry creek/powerline and mabye Martinez Mine. Woodpecker and Lower Ajax are totally doable, but there are a few spots on each where you (and others) may need some help. The rest of the trails, you wont have any problems with.

I can't emphasize this enough though.. Rock sliders are necessary for this run. Without them, rocker panels will be toast.

how much would it cost for a decent shop to fab up some sliders? just a ball park.. and should I get them welded on? or bolted on?

Snatfinder.. I am going to build my own sliders.. I am also going to build some trusses on the unibody to hang the sliders off of. Most of the trucks around here have the sliders welded on and were build by 2001frontier. (one slider even took a car out without damage).

Talk to Dean, he purchased his sliders from someone and they are bolt on. Pretty inexpensive too from what I read. I think it was shockworks??

Oh yeah... and don't buy into the perception of the CaR50 syndrome, Snat. Were pretty capable rigs believe it or not. smiley4

R50's do just fine. They only lack clearance, but with a locker and some armor, they do great. I saw Dean do very well in his up in Moab, and he's also tackled the Rubicon in it.
