I know you guys mentioned NW-Central area. But what about some action up in the Mongo Rim or maybe some action around the Grand Canyon?

Remember, the run is in March. Not much difficult stuff on the rim unless snow is involved.

They only got strapped because the obstacles were very difficult due to the conditions and the tires on the trucks werent good for mud. Everyone tried their best to make it up everything, but some of the trucks had to be strapped. The conditions would have tested the limits of your truck even.

There were no breakdowns aside from an occasional blown bead/flat tire. Smile

I think that 37's, a V6, and dual lockers wouldn't have had too much trouble. Dual lockers is the big part obviously... Most weren't locked or had "LSD's" right? Thought so...

I dunno Mikey.. you werent there. These were the worst (best?) conditions I have ever wheeled in. Nonstop mud, rain, and sleet. Near freezing temps, deep water, etc. If you werent there, theres really no way to describe it. Basically throw everything you know about AZ wheeling out the window.. it, for the most part didnt apply that week.

I had to strap Joel up one spot, but it was because his A/T tires couldnt get any traction, even with the locker in. Terrence got sucked down into some quicksand and even with locker and 33s, he couldnt get out. I pulled him out though.

Mikey would have froze his arse off with now windows and half doors.

Hell, I was cold with the windows up and the heater on! Thats why I'd never want an open vehicle like that. I like wheeling in all weather.

Hard to say how well Mikey's truck would have done on that sunflower trail that day. With all the weight sawed off that truck, it might not have had the weight over the wheels for the needed traction. With no fender liners, though, his engine would be one big dirt clod.

I look forward to seeing the pissfinder in action. Then the shit talking stops on both sides and we'll see proof one way or the other on how well it all works.

Whatever we do, we need to think about the possiblity there will be a large group. After having attended GONEMoab and hitting the trails in groups larger than 20, I see the need to split into separate groups with a common meeting place at night. This has me thinking about the FJ area - would have to look into getting a permit (again). Not sure what the insurance would run on that. We'll dig into it more. Now that some guys have Tcase gears, they'll want to run the 4 rated trails. We could do Ajax, woodpecker, martinez mine, coke ovens, jack handle, and a number of other trails in that area. Maybe also head towards Superior and run the Devils Canyon loop we ran on AZII.

Thoughts? The permit will be the biggest thing to deal with, as much of that is on trust land.

I am all for it. I definatly enjoy more challenging trails. Maybe they do a temporary permit for such events.

Um, hello - our app didn't get turned down, I withdrew it when I found out about the mandatory 1 million insurance policy that has to be held during the entire time the permit is help (annually). I'm not paying it - don't have the money to!

But how much does one of them insurance policies run for a few days? Any way to find out who would carry that type of insurance and what the cost would be for a week long event?
