I need to know where, when and what all I'd need to bring. I'm new to this stuff and would like to go since my wife is from Mesa and I've never been to AZ we are thinking about going. The previous boards just are too long to read to find out the final decision, if there even is a final on where it's all happening. I just have a stock '84 720 with 235/75/15s. and I don't know if I'll have any other mods by the time AZ Run IV rolls around.

Thanks in advance for all the help

I think you'll want to get some bigger tires on the truck before you come, else you'll be parking and riding a lot. I've run some of the more mild trails on smaller tires and bumped bottom a lot on the rocks. We're recommending at least 31" rubber for these trails.

That said, we'd love to see a 720 on the run. With regard on what to bring, we'll be posting more info on that later this fall once trails have been fully preran, but count on bringing camping gear for several days in the desert (no services), water, spare parts, tools, etc.

31s... hmm.. I'll have to see what I can do. That would probably mean doing a body lift. but I don't want to do any of those kinds of mods until I get a good steering box and replace all my tie rods. Until I can turn left all the way, I'm not going on any runs.. plus there's the flat springs in the back issue... we'll just have to see what I come up with by then.

btw, anyone have a 720 p/s gear box in good condition they'd wanna part with?

31's should fit on a 720 with minor fender trimming at the rear of the front fender openings. 30x9.50s should fit easily with no modification and might be sufficient for these trails.

Andy, once this gas problem blows over, we need to get out and do some pre-running to find out exactly what we're going to be dealing with out there.

yep. I've walked Woodpecker. Not sure if we'll get unlocked trucks through there, so I need another locked vehicle to go with me.

Ajax can be run unlocked, I understand. We need Mikey out there to help guide us a bit.

Martinez mine - It's been recommended we don't do that entire loop up by the luge and its bypass, but there is a place to turn around a small group of trucks before you get there.

Coke Ovens / Box / Battleaxe is old hat.

And we need to go out and run the area out by Devils canyon again. I think I can find where we camped on AZ Run II out there, but we didn't run all of it.

Once I've got the trailer out here, I'll be able to take the Patrol out on some of the shorter trails. As long as we dont encounter any climbs over 40 degrees or so, the carb should do ok.

Andy, when are you realistacly looking at running those trails?
Maybe if my crap is done in time that is convienent with you, I can make a couple of weekend trips to 'pre-run' some of those trails. I hope my crap is done in Sep.

Ideally, we'd run them when the weather cools off, which would be Sept/Oct. Its been way too hot lately to be playin around out in the florence area.

Winter. Prerunning in Winter. (More importantly when I'm out of school, or on Sundays... haha) I've never been through Ajax. You'll have to ask the X guys about that. I think they had a run about a year ago. haha Woodpecker is gonna be fun cuz I'll know all of the competition lines by the time the run comes around. Andy, if you want to run some stuff out in FJ toward the end of September/early October, give me a holler. I'd be up for playin' around on Woodpecker.

I'll definitely be out there come October. We do have a cali run planed for Columbus day weekend, but other weekends aren't full yet. (just don't let DL know that Smile ) I want to do some overnight camping this fall, as I've not had the chance to do ANY ALL SUMMER.

It's fun if you got water around.....remember the Ruly roll out at the Gila River? Maybe you weren't on that trip - I don't remember.

Plus, there's always the rim for cooler temps. I just need to get the hell away from the city for a while. If I'm not here, I've been in Charlotte or San Diego this summer, but wherever I've been it's been with a million other people. Just need to get out.

Hey, I am thinking about heading over for the run...I am planning on 31x10.50 BFG A/Ts, sliders, and some skid plates. Think that will be good enough to hang on most trails with you guys?? Since I'm over in vegas and somewhat new to wheeling, 1) would it be okay if I showed up?? and 2) anyone know about how far it is from vegas??

White 99 4x4 V-6 XE Frontier, K&N filter, mussa grill guard, much much more to come...

That should be good. If not then I'm staying home, it's not a rock crawler thing.

Vegas is several hours away, and everyone is welcome!!

Yes, please come. There are a couple trails not suitable for stock rigs, but everything else is. And on those other trails we'll need spotters anyways Smile 6 days of fun in the Arizona desert. It CAN'T be beat!

I think Vegas is like 5 hours? There will be PLENTY of trails for every kind of build you can think of..
