Truck requirements by trail:

DAYS 1 & 2

Lower Woodpecker - 31" tires minimum. Lift, armor, and rear locker mandatory. Crawler gears highly recommended for manual transmission trucks.

Upper Woodpecker - 31" tires minimum. Lift and armor mandatory. Locker recommended. Crawler gears recommended for manual transmission trucks.

Lower Ajax - 31" tires minimum. Lift and armor, and locker highly recommended.

Upper Ajax - 32" tire minimum. Lift, armor, front and rear lockers mandatory (or front LSD). Crawler gears recommended. Winch is a good to have for the upper waterfall.

Note: Days 1 and 2 will have milder runs for lesser equipped trucks (I do need trail leaders for those days)

DAY 3

Martinez Cabins - All trucks. 4x4 required.

Martinez Mine - 31" tires minimum. Larger tires recommended. Lift, armor, and rear locker mandatory. Crawler gears highly recommended for manual transmission trucks. Crawler gears mandatory for 4 cyl trucks.

Coke Ovens - (this is the alternate run the day we do Martinez). All trucks. 4x4 required.

DAY 4

Box Canyon - All trucks. 4x4 required.

DAYS 5 & 6

Charouleau Gap - 31" tires minimum. Lift, armor, and locker recommended but not required.

Well, even if I get my truck 4x4 functional, I guess I am still hosed... no lockers or crawler gears. Frown

There's still trails you can run. Martinez has some extremely steep grades that my truck would really struggle on without the gears.

You can run upper woodpecker, lower ajax, charouleau, coke ovens, box canyon, martinez cabins.....Just a handful I wouldn't want to see it on. I'm setting this up so everyone who comes, regardless of ability, can have a good time.

You know the old saying...you can please some of the people some of the time.....

If I had it set up where an unlocked, no crawler gear truck could do the whole thing, I'd have the other half of everyone complaining that the trails weren't challenging enough.....

Oh yeah, I completely understand. I just don't want to put myself in a "situation I might regret." But if it is setup where most of us can go one way or another, then that is cool.

Do I qualify as having a 'lift'? I put NO on the registration form.

'00 Xterra
3" body lift
1" poor man's lift (Calmini 3" shackles rear and factory torsion bar crank in front)
32" BFG MT tires
full skidplates (see pic at end of post for visual - have added gas tank skid since)
front air locker (thanks Stone!)
rear air locker

I'm fine with being told that I should skip a run or go on an easier one... I'd just like to know where I stand beforehand (i.e. will I be the worst truck there capability-wise? in the middle of the pack?)

Glen, With the armor and lockers you have, I think you're safe for every trail except upper Ajax. Upper Ajax is truly hardcore.

You may have clearance issues on lower woodpecker, but it can be bypassed, as it's very short, and the bulk of the trail is on upper Woodpecker. The clearance may also be of concern in a couple spots on Martinez...but stay behind someone who can give you a tug off the stuff you hang up on....I can think of two places that'll give you some trouble without a SL.

I'm going to wait a little bit to get some more details on the Day 4-6 situation and whether or not I'm going to have a locker by then....

Also, this depends on whether or not I get moved in quickly...hah.

I still don't know if I am gonna come or not. It all depends on if I get my truck done in time. I don't know if I want to ride along w/ someone again. We'll see.

I selected Thursday as my arrival date, but I will likely be joining you all at camp that evening. Andy, just let me know when you finalize the Thursday night camping location.

It's on state trust land.

another reason to get those permits! Should be there late afternoon. We'll be traveling from Florence and will head this way after an R&R stop in town.
