I would suggest you plate your frame like John did.
Nice insurance and it's a pita to not have shocks running down the trail and street. Also install bumpstops and limiting straps. Forged outta the fires of Mt. F'ng Fuji |

Do you think spring over vs spring under played any part in the extra stress?
Thought: The extra droop over extending the shock and that over stressing the mount.
