RE4R01A/RL401A Transmission code retrieval procedure
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition to "OFF" position.
3. Set power shift switch to "AUTO" position.
4. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
5. Move selector lever to "P" position.
6. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine.)
7. Power shift indicator lamp will light for about 2 seconds. (indicating transmission computer is functioning) Proceed with the following instructions to retrieve any codes.
8. Turn ignition switch to "ACC" position.
9. Move selector lever to "D" position.
10. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
11. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine)
-- Wait for more than 2 seconds after ignition switch "ON".
12. Move selecter lever to "2" position.
13. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
14. Move selector lever to "1" position.
15. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
16. Depress accelerator pedal fully and release it.
Now, watch the power shift indicator lamp. It will flash a long flash followed by a series of 10 flashes. After the long flash, count the flashes and note if any of the 10 are longer. Any long flash indicates a problem. The number of the long flash is the fault code number. If multiple fault codes are contained in the computer, it will flash multiple groups of 10. If the 10 flashes are all of equal length (short), the transmission is OK and no fault codes are present.
17. Turn ignition off.. you are done. Refer to the code list below to decipher any codes displayed.
